Pray for our Troops

At The Summit we support our troops who are willing to sacrifice of themselves for the freedom of others.

When you visit the giant Military Tribute mural at The Summit, you’ll have an opportunity to place a prayer on the Angel Tree for our young troops and veterans throughout the world and at home, or sign the Guest Tribute book honoring our heroes both past and present who have shed blood to promote and preserve freedom and truth.

72dpiMedia.cover.1Tell that Summit guy, “Thanks!”

The Summit was the lead sponsor for the Stringed Edition Guitar Ensemble as they performed a welcome concert at Buffalo airport. The photo on the right shows Channel 2 and 4 news crews filming them.

But something happened that is both encouraging and warming. Some soldiers passed through the terminal, receiving thunderous applause from everyone there. One soldier stopped where we were playing. His name is Lt. Chris Clements. He's from Buffalo, and just returned from Iraq after serving there in the 135th Engineers. On his arm was a badge that said "12-06-05 Lest We Forget", a badge that represented a man under his command who was killed in Iraq last December. Lt. Clements stood listening to the ensemble for nearly an hour. 72dpiSummit.promoHe had given his wife the wrong time for arrival (forgetting the time change between Missouri and Buffalo) and he had an hour to kill. She didn't have a cell phone to reach her, so he said he was enjoying the music. He stood the whole time, saying he wanted to see his wife before she saw him.

He asked what the Summit was, being originally from Missouri and his wife is from Buffalo. I shared with him some of what's happening there, and how there's a wall dedicated to our troops. He asked why the Summit was "all over the Airport" and I explained that Mr. Anthony, the owner, had agreed to help sponsor the event. He said "that's a nice thing he did. I wish this band was able to play in Iraq. It's great to come home to this".

72dpiLtClements.1The elevator opened and his wife and 16-month-old son emerged. He turned as he started rushing over and said "tell that Summit guy thanks..." and he rushed into his wife's arms. She hugged him forever. The entire bench sitting near me was filled with people who - literally - mopped tears from their eyes. He picked up his son and held him, and it was a moment that reminds us of all that is good through God.

Here is a photo of his hug, his son, and if you look to the right the Summit sign.

So Summit guy....thanks!

This site is the one Anthony & Company has been using to get the addresses of servicemen and women in Iraq who want to receive care packages and letters. You cannot use this site to send an e-mail message directly to our troops. It’s just a program that provides current addresses.

This is a website that has been set up by the US Army. It provides a way to send an email of encouragement that can be read by soldiers servicing in the Army only.

www.Anyservicemember.org
This might be the best site because it provides a way to send an email of encouragement to a member of the armed services – any branch of the military. The only thing I didn’t like about it is the extreme restrictions they put on the emails – seems a little over the top to me to monitor how many exclamation points you put in your message (I happen to like exclamation points!!!!!!), BUT other than that it seems like the best site to put in as a link for The Summit’s website. The following section is copied straight from their site and shows their rules for posting an email message…

A site where you can send an email message of encouragement to a member of the armed forces – any branch

www.noanie.com
This site provides an excellent resource for how people can support wounded soldiers that are recovering in the main military hospital overseas

www.hugsfromhome.org
Once again, this might not be a good link for The Summit’s website if they are looking just for an immediate way for people to send an email to troops, but it’s another great resource. It provides a way to apply to write letters to one specific soldier who is stationed overseas.
