Geology or Epiphany: What is Niagara Falls?
Go to Niagara Falls with your heart, mind and spirit open to see the truth in what it is. The Niagara River, that drains the largest freshwater bodies on the Earth, has been cutting through solid rock like a knife through butter for about 12,000 years. But is it just a river? Is it just a waterfall?
Could it be an image of the Grace of God pouring out irresistibly on the earth? The Word of God, cutting like a divine sword to the division of your soul and your skeleton. Pulverizing that which is hard, giving life to the land and it’s people. The heavenly voice thunders across the floor of His glorious temple which is covered by His pure living water.
Omnipotence and Omniscience manifests in the One, the triune God, revealed in solid, liquid and gas forms calling and creating, forever inspiring praise and delight at the incomparable glory that is Niagara Falls.
The power of the river and the falls yields power and powerlessness at the same time. Stand at the edge and know that your death is inches away. So is your life and eternity.
Climb to the Hurricane Deck below the Bridal Veil Falls and be buffeted yet caressed by the Ruach Elohim, or Breath of God, as the water crashes over and around you. Breathe His Breath, and then be baptized in the Holy Water as it reaches out to immerse you, cleanse you, and betroth you to your Bridegroom. Did they know all this when they named these places?
Make your pilgrimage to the base of the Falls and see the Spirit rising visibly and invisibly to permeate the Earth. Listen, feel, taste, smell, hear and see the Creator in the holiest place He has made in creation: Niagara Falls!
